Our History

2001

Founding Year

Year Established: 2001 was the year EFG Hermes Annual Conference concept was created.
Origin Story: In 2001, EFG Hermes has managed to develop from a local to a regional player in a majority of its activities to become one of the leading firms in the Arab World. EFG Hermes represented a pathway into Egypt and other emerging markets in the region. Consequently, the EFG Hermes Egypt Annual Conference concept was created. The aim of the conference is to act as a forum where portfolio managers and analysts from international institutions meet and discuss, on a one-on-one basis, investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.
Key Milestones 2001: Establishment of The Annual One-on-One Conference.
In 2001, we hosted our first One-on-One conference in Sharm El Sheikh, in Egypt with 6 presenting companies, 24 Investors and 13 Financial Institutions. The conference was founded with the aim of bringing together portfolio managers and analysts from international institutions to discuss investment opportunities in the Egyptian market. This inaugural event created a platform for sharing knowledge, networking, and fostering collaboration.

2011

Establishment of The Annual London MENA conference

A more recent edition of EFG Hermes' flagship conferences is the London MENA conference, which was first launched in 2011 as an incremental addition to capital market events that focus on MENA economies. In addition to bringing investors and presenters closer, the conference also served as a global gathering of economic thought leaders, investment gurus and highly-potent presenting companies that meet to create stronger ties between two distinct investment regions, the Middle East & North Africa "MENA" and Western Europe.

2013

The One-on-One Conference has been relocated to Dubai

In 2013, we broadened our international presence by relocating the conference to the vibrant city of Dubai. This event attracted 59 presenting companies and welcomed 235 investors from 125 prominent financial institutions. The conference was held at the luxurious Atlantis, The Palm, providing an exquisite backdrop for networking and collaboration.

2014

The London MENA Conference is held at the iconic Emirates Stadium!

For the first time, The EFG Hermes Annual London MENA Conference is hosted at an exceptional event taking place at the iconic Emirates Stadium! This venue, renowned for its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, provides the perfect backdrop for fostering collaboration and innovation among leaders. Participants will engage in insightful discussions, explore emerging trends, and network with industry experts, all while enjoying the unique charm of this world-class stadium.

2020

Conferences Go Virtual

In 2020, As the COVID-19 Crisis continued to take its toll on economies and financial markets, we had all found ourselves in unchartered waters. Governments, central banks, and financial institutions around the world were working to carve ways out of the crisis, with challenges facing FEMs in particular. Investors and executives had to not only navigate these changes but envision a "new norm" when it came to the FEM landscape. There was no better time for the community to come together to discuss the changing economic landscape, gain key on-the-ground insights, and look into potential opportunities for investment in these markets. We held our first virtual conference in June 2020 with 72 companies from 14 countries and 480 institutional investors from 160 financial institutions. The number of meetings conducted were over 6500.

2022

Our virtual conferences continue to thrive, achieving remarkable success and The One-on-One Conference is back in Dubai.

We continued to hold virtual conferences for two years. As another challenging year came to an end, investors looked at global developments and localized growth stories. While the recovery was expected to continue in 2022, investors considered the future path of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and inflation in the US and FEM economies, the potential for a commodity super cycle, the prospects of a relapse on the Covid recovery, and the staying power of high-growth stocks. Investors and corporates together addressed these issues during the conference. Hosting over 226 presenting companies from 35 countries across various sectors, including 750 institutional investors from 277 institutions, is a testament to the conference's success. The conference saw 15,000+ meetings take place.
we celebrated the first in-person iteration of the One-on-One Conference, the world's largest investment forum dedicated to frontier emerging markets (FEM), since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The event titled "Weathering Inflation - Finding Focus in FEM" took place in September 2022 at Atlantis, the Palm in Dubai.

2024

The Annual London Conference is back at the iconic Emirates Stadium.

Themed "A New Era of Opportunities", this year's conference delved into the transformative capabilities of sectors such as financials, consumer goods, telecommunications, technology, materials, energy, and more. Investors, presenting companies, and governmental dignitaries attending the EFG Hermes 10th Annual London Conference will have the opportunity to explore fresh avenues for growth, establish meaningful connections, and cultivate partnerships.

2025 Emerging EMEA in Extel's Research Survey

EFG Hermes was voted No. 1 by buy-side investors in the Corporate Access Conference for Emerging EMEA in Extel’s 2025 Research survey, reinforcing the value of being consistently recognized by the investor and presenter community for whom our conferences are specifically tailored. The ranking celebrates the EFG Hermes One-on-One Conference as the top investor conference in the region, placing the firm ahead of global peers and reaffirming its position as the premier conduit between international capital and MENA opportunities. The firm’s London conference ranked No. 3 in the Conferences Corporate View category by votes, making EFG Hermes the only investment bank with two events in the top three in two different categories.
